The Rise of Mommy Porn?

Wow, I just noticed that it’s been awhile since I made a new blog post. They say March comes in like a lamb and leaves like a lion, or vice versa. For me, it just came and went. It’s been a crazy month with not a lot of time for things like Blog posts. Anyway, I thought I would rant a bit tonight.

As many of you already know, I was recently asked to do an interview for CBC news about the review I wrote for Fifty Shades of Grey. The reporter contacted me and asked if I would be interested in giving my opinion about why I think women relate to this book so much. I was thrilled, mostly because I wanted to address this silly label it’s been given “Mommy Porn”. When asked, I specifically told the reporter in the interview that I disagree with that label. Yes, it is an erotic book (in my opinion, mild erotica), but it is so much more than that. I truly think women resonate with this book because of the romance, that’s what we truly crave. If it was just about sex, well, there are a lot more books with sex scenes that are hotter, more graphic, and much more frequent.

What I want to rant about is the fact that CBC cut out my opinion completely and pulled snippets from our conversation, twisting the interview to look like I agreed with the Mommy Porn label. I feel a little betrayed to be honest. Not because I don’t ever read erotica or that I’m embarrassed about it. No, what bothers me is the fact that they asked for my opinion and then portrayed a completely opposite opinion than the one I gave. I am frustrated with the report, it’s disheartening to see a station that is supposed to be dedicated to reporting an unbiased news report completely muddy the water to reflect a story slanted the way they wanted it to look. Just goes to show you, you can’t really ever trust what you see on TV.

If anyone is interested in seeing the interview I will post it below.
